CSRD Compliance and Sanctions List Screening - An Overview of Two New Features
The logistics industry is evolving, driven by technological advancements and new requirements in sustainability and security. To address these challenges, Cito is introducing two new features: a greenhouse gas emissions report and a sanctions list check. These tools are designed to increase efficiency and simplify compliance with legal regulations.
The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report
Starting in 2025, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will become mandatory for many companies. This directive requires reporting on the carbon footprint of business activities, including transportation. Cito's new feature makes meeting this requirement a simple task.
The Cito platform allows companies to automatically track the carbon footprint of all shipments and generate a fully CSRD-compliant report directly as a PDF. This feature not only reduces administrative effort but also minimizes the risk of reporting errors.
Who is subject to the reporting obligation?
Starting in 2025, the CSRD applies to companies that meet at least two of the following criteria:
- More than 250 employees
- A balance sheet total of more than EUR 20 million
- An annual turnover of more than EUR 40 million
The scope will be expanded in the coming years:
From 2026: Reporting obligation for smaller companies with at least 10 employees and an annual turnover of 700,000 EUR.
From 2028: Companies outside the EU that operate with branches or subsidiaries in the EU and generate over 150 million EUR in group turnover in the European market are also included.
The automatic greenhouse gas emissions reporting feature is available to every Cito customer.
In addition, numerous new regulations and targets will come into effect from 2025, which will transform the transport and logistics sector. From stricter CO₂ limits and rising emission costs to new requirements for charging infrastructure – companies must prepare for significant adjustments to remain competitive and compliant. An overview of all changes:
Stricter CO₂ fleet targets
The EU is significantly lowering the CO₂ emission limits for vehicle fleets starting in 2025. For passenger cars, the target will be 93.6 grams of CO₂ per kilometer, representing a 19 percent reduction. For light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tons, the reduction is 17 percent, from 185 grams of CO₂ per kilometer to 154 grams of CO₂ per kilometer.

Rising CO₂ costs
The price for CO₂ emissions from fuels such as diesel and gasoline will increase from 45 to 55 euros per ton starting in 2025. This is expected to lead to an increase in fuel prices of 0.16 euros per liter.

New requirements for charging infrastructure
The Building Electromobility Infrastructure Act (GEIG) requires that, starting in 2025, existing buildings with more than 20 parking spaces must have at least one charging point installed. New buildings and renovations are subject to even stricter requirements. Owners who fail to meet these requirements risk fines of up to 10,000 euros.

The automatic sanctions list check
In a globalized economy, screening business partners against sanctions lists is essential. Cito's automatic sanctions list check ensures that this process is carried out efficiently and error-free.
Instead of time-consuming manual checks, the screening takes place fully automatically in the background. This guarantees that all companies in the network remain legally compliant and free of sanctioned partners.
Benefits of the sanctions list check
- Minimizes risks through automatic screening
- Save time by eliminating manual verification processes
- Seamless integration into existing workflows
Digital support for logistics companies
The new features address specific challenges in logistics: CSRD-compliant documentation of greenhouse gas emissions and sanctions list screening. This allows Cito to provide practical support for meeting legal requirements and capturing relevant company data.
The greenhouse gas emissions report and the automated sanctions list check are available free of charge to all existing and new customers until March 2025.
